Attending an event alongside not one, but two glammed up actresses, you might think it odd that Neil (my Daddy's famous, yaar) M. would be the focus on my rant. But alas, that is the case with the Dubai premiere of Players. What's my problem? In one word: mullet. He is sporting "business in front, party in back" hill billy hair. It's not hot. It's not attractive. And it makes Abhi's poofy, in-need-of-a-cut hair actually look decent by comparison.

With the tux, it makes NNM look like something straight out of an '80s high school yearbook. Don't ya agree? Here, let me help you visualize: 2Cool + 2Be = 4Gotten. Not.

On to the ladies. Promo work alongside Sonam has apparently revved Bips' fashionista engine. She rocked out her G&N gown. Meanwhile, Sonam trotted out one of the big guns in the form of a Gaultier creation. Splashing about in haute (international) couture is only beneficial when the pieces are flattering. This gown was "meh" on the runway, and even more so off. I just don't like it. She looks like she's about to join Fabio in posing for the cover of a trashy romance novel.

Optical Illusion

I am of course referring to the trickery (unintentionally) played by Ravs at a Seven Seas press meet. From afar she looks quite lovely, no? The unsuspecting viewer is lulled into believing this is a spot-on appearance for Ravs. However close-ups don't lie, and boy did this one paint an entirely different picture.

Yikes! Holy makeup overload. Her MUA clearly went bonkers in applying the ~~war paint~~ makeup, but also neglected to blend, blend, blend.

It surely must have gotten tiring for Vids to constantly vamp it up for cameras as she promoted The Dirty Picture in character as Silk Smitha. However, there is no excuse for the shlubby, lazy dressing on display at a recent house party. You're moderately famous, dahling. You must expect that at the mere hint of a party, the paparazzi will swarm. Therefore, it is inexcusable after all that hard work promoting your daring role, for you to show up like this.

Seriously, Mads. You are an amazing actress, and no one in Bollywood can hold a candle to your dancing abilities. But I have to ask: has your fashion sense gone on permanent hiatus?! At a promotional event for Oral B, La Dixit's sari itself was a tad dull, but ok. It's the blouse that was inexplicable. Is that aluminum foil? Really? It's odd and unflattering to the point of giving her a Divya Dutta-style uniboob situation. Add to all of that, her choice of hair and makeup was poor - overly done up, it simply ages La Dixit.

Mummy-Beti Showcase

Hello! had the rather novel idea of showcasing three famous sets of Bolly families on three covers. Seemingly ageless Dimple, along with daughters Twinkle and Rinke was a no-brainer.

The Jaya/Shweta cover was striking. It reminded me of Jaya's plucky youthful heroines. Having been defrumped, Jaya looks lovely. I think it's the properly smoothed out hair and kajal that make the biggest difference. Shweta looks positively smoldering. I think with TMBWITW for a sister-in-law, she is oft overshadowed so this was a great cover choice.

The third cover totally took me by surprise. Well played, Hello!,well played. It's none other than Saifu's first wife Amrita Singh and daughter Sara Ali Khan. With all the publicity that Saifeena attracts, Saif's first wife and adult daughter don't garner much attention. The ladies looked quite regal. Dang, Saifu is gettin' old!

No, not the tv show. It's my reaction upon learning that Bata has teamed up with designer Malini Ramani for a line of - yes, that's right - kohlapuri wedges! At long last, I now know where I can find these adorable versions of the ordinary chappal first spotted on La Rai and Tara S. ages ago. Now I actually have a fashionable excuse to drag myself to a Bata shop!

The Khan bash - notable for its strange mashup of ladies in blinged out attire, guys in bum wear, and Katrina - was the site of a bit of a familial face-off between Arpita and Amrita. I gotta say, I think this round handily belongs to Amu (though she does lose points for that gross ciggie-puffing arm candy). While it's nice to see Arpita go for bold complete with big baubles, the look fell flat and that matchtastic green eye shadow was a downer.

Unfortunately, whilst I (and undoubtedly countless others) had hoped he'd - I dunno - cut it all off, Fardeen decided the logical thing to do, would be to head to the drug store on his way to the Khan party, and purchase himself a pack of ciggies (eeeww) and a head band. A head band. He must have a gaggle of ~~lackeys~~ friends telling him this looks good.

It may be a couture piece, but attractive it most certainly is not. It pains me to say it, but Sonam was a mess at the Players music launch. Now I understand that she most likely was in character, but still. The fact that this look is reminding me oh so much of Divya Dwivedi here, should clue you in as to the level of badness on display. Have a look for yourselves - the resemblance is uncanny, right down to the shiny nylons. Gah!

I gotta say, Genelia does it right. She knew she rocked the glittery romper (as so few outside of the infant-toddler age bracket can), so why waste it on one, fleeting appearance? She popped into the G7 Fashion Store for a quick photo opp, and then dashed off to the Khan family par-tay afterwards.

Wonder why she switched out those fab heels for the comparatively less fab (and flatter) gold sandals?

pigeon-toed mess was the only shot of GD
standing alone that I could find.

Ah. Of course. It all becomes clear. She opted for the measurably less chic sandals as she was meeting fiance Ritesh at Sohail's bash. Couldn't pose next to hubs-to-be towering over him, now could we? Arrgh. The Short Bollywood Man Complex strikes again!

Unacceptable

Makeup artists are supposed to make us look even better than we actually look, right? So when a MUA can take a beauty queen and actually make her look ... bad, what does that say about the MUA's abilities? Poor Neha D. apparently sat in the chair of the world's most inept MUA prior to a press conference announcing her performance at a New Year's event.

The matte brown shadow applied like a raccoon's eyes is unflattering alone and just plain inexplicable when paired with the shimmery, light-reflecting shadow on her brow bones. The heavily layered on pancake foundation is at least one shade too light for Neha and since the MUA not only chose the wrong shade, but then failed to blend it at her jaw line, we have the dreaded mime effect. The streaks of ~~blush~~ war paint are not even remotely blended in, and that red lip is just - what? Unnecessary. The whole look is a mishmash of badness. I wouldn't even call it a look since (other than being unflattering), there is nothing unifying the MUA's choices of colors.

If clownish is what the MUA was going for,
they pretty much nailed it.

Piggy Chops and SRK were snapped at a Don 2 promotional event in quite the awkward pose. Initially, I was going to post it as a "Caption This" but it's just too easy.

Gauri is gonna be pissed!

Despite the semi-scandalous nature of the previous pic, Piggy looks quite demure and ladylike. The sheath looks fantastic on her. I only wish she'd have traded in those office slingbacks for a pair of towering pumps.

On an unrelated note, I know calling Mumbai a warm climate is an understatement, but c'mon guys. Use antiperspirant for frick's sake. If that fails, perhaps Piggy would be kind enough to give you some dress shields because those half moons under your arms are not unnoticeable.

Epic Fail

Though the Kapoor-Khan machine steadfastly denies their upcoming shaadi, Bebo attended Bhopal-Pataudi Polo Cup Final at the Jaipur Polo Ground in New Delhi along her - I'm just gonna go ahead and call a spade, a spade - fiance, the Nawab. Saifu was color-coordinated down to his socks, and looked quite dapper. Mama Sharmila was stunning as per ush (happy to see her in post-mourning color again), and Soha was of course a dud with her refusal to change up her hair style. The real shocker though, was Bebo's utter and complete fashion failure. The greasy pony tail (tied up with a scrunchie no less!) and bright red talons didn't improve the shapeless sack of a dress she wore. Didn't put in much effort for this outing did we, Bebo?

Bebo, if you're not going to try at all, at least don't stand right next to
impeccably styled Sharmila.
Trust me. The comparison is not flattering.

Bebo: D'oh. Do you think this mega-watt rock is giving away our big secret?

Filmi Forecast: Hollywood Ishtyle

Though he may have you forget it, AB Sr. is not the only veteran Bolly star making a Hollywood debut. The Pompadoured One achieved that feat first with his turn as a villain in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. Have a dekho at Anil working the red carpet at the film's Dubai Film Festival premiere along with co-stars Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton, and director Brad Bird.

Another Hollywood newbie is none other than Anupam Kher who will reportedly be starring in The Silver Linings Playbook alongside Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper. You can read Kher's interview where he literally falls all over himself singing De Niro's praises, here, if you can stomach it.

Is it just me or is there something unbalanced about Deepika's look at this recent radio promotional event? The flouncy cocktail mini paired with flats just looks odd. Each piece on its own is perfectly fine (though the dress is making me consider trotting out my figure skating analogy again), but together they just look odd.

Why why why are Bolly heroines discouraged from rocking out sky high heels? Stars like Deepika and Katrina are always compensating for their height by wearing flats. "Pish tosh," I say! Let the shortie men take a cue from Sallu baba and wear stacked heels! Photo: getty.

Is it just me or is the ever-more waifish Karisma about to vanish before our eyes? To be fair, part of it is her knack for dressing to slim the silhouette, but let's be real. Her dropping of post-baby weight has been meteoric! Attending a promotional event for Baby Oye, an online baby and maternity store, she's sure to have invited the envy of many a new mom.

The black-white combo is sleek and well balanced with a blousey top and A-line skirt. The nude, cut-out Choos are a great way to break up the black-white while also serving to further elongate her silhouette. The chunky necklace is a nice touch. Photos: getty.

Superb Saris

Sari-clad celebrities stole the show at the Airtel Superstar Awards red carpet. These three ladies were far and away the best dressed and put even couture gowns to shame with their obvious gorgeousness. Bips more than compensates for her previous appearance. The hot pink/yellow combo is fabulous. I do wish it had full sleeves on both arms - the one sleeve thing is puzzling. The upswept hair, the bold pink bindi and lip, and the winged eye liner resulted in a smoldering look for this Bong babe.

Rekha was in standard Rekha attire. The woman practically owns the all-gold palette with regards to pure silk saris. It's heirloom material, people. To it, she added her long, loose hair and just a wee bit heavy-handed makeup. It might be slightly on the pancakey side, but you know what, it's always worked for Rekha so one hardly expects her to suddenly adopt natural makeup at this stage in the game.

Arpita, dear, sweet Arpita. Usually she's out shined by her spotlight-seeking brothers are sister-in-law Malaika, but every once in a while, Arpita manages to make her own statement. She is unassuming and lovely in mustard yellow and pink. She wears the sari well, and stays within her comfort zone with simple hair and makeup.

It's Not Just For Figure Skaters

Sonali attended the AB-SK bash wearing one of the duo's own creations. I must say, I was surprised to see sheer mesh on a sari blouse - heck, I was surprised to see it anywhere outside a skating rink. While I link the sleeves and the overall cut of the blouse, the sheer mesh is a deal breaker. With the exception of the swirls on the blouse, the sari itself it bo-ring. So overall, not a fan of this piece. I do like Sonali's newly reddish tinged hair, however. It's one of the few hair colors other than basic black that flatters desis.

No, I am not referring to Rahul K's facial hair. I'm referring to the PETA Awards ceremony in honor of our furry animal friends. Rahul looked quite dapper, although the jeans with a tie look is a bit mystifying. Typically I would assume you'd pick one or the other. Still, Rahul manages to make it look good. Kudos.

Also lending her support, Dia was luminous. I wonder if they sell that glow on the market. I hear she's rep'ing The Body Shop. They could bottle a "Glow Like a Dia" (haha get it?) product and make a bundle. If y'all start seeing it on their shelves, I'll have my people contact them for royalties. Jokes aside, I'm loving the pink and green combo of her sari - haven't seen it much of late.

The ever-stylish mother-daughter duo of Dimple and Twinkle made a characteristically chic appearance at the AJ-SK bash. Coordinated in their cremes and golds, the Khanna ladies were radiant as per ush. Though, as you all know, I am a stickler for proper blouses and thus, I am not too fond of Twink's strapless "blouse", I do like the unexpected pop of green she added with her emerald jewels and one of her vast collection of knot clutches.

After a spate of fashionable appearances, I was rather disappointed in DP's attire at a promotional event for Raj and Pablo's "Bollywood Jollygood" t-shirt line. Yes, she reappeared with a bold, red lip. Yes, she trotted out another one-sleeve number. Yes, she did her best impression of a mannequin. And yes, the overall look was a letdown.

I don't mean to harp on this what with all the ridic (I hope they're) rumors about Abbas-Mustan requiring DP to lose 10 pounds for Race 2, but she's almost looking haggard and even more beanpoley than usual. DP has been on a roll of late. She can add her appearance at the D.Y. Patil awards to the growing list of sartorial hits on the red carpet. DP wore a heavily embellished Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla chudidaar kurta that was very similar to the one a few days earlier by La Rai.

Ok, maybe we need to work on some new poses.
Still, the look is smashing!

Personally, I like the Nehru collar on Deepika's version. Given the fact that the kurta was so mega-watt, I especially like DP's decision to wear her hair up and away from her face. The not unsubstantial drop-style earrings and bronzed makeup were nice touches as well. Photos: filmicafe.

Whole Lotta Red

Bright, tomato red seems to have been the color of choice for ladies at the Hello! awards. Kudos to DP for outshining all the rest. Looks like DP's style quotient is on a spectacular upswing of late. Happy to see it!

I love the structure of this Gauri and Nainika creation.
It sets DP apart from the flowy gowned masses.

Plunging neckline + VS supermodel hair and makeup.
Amy Jackson is smokin' hot. No question.

I quite like this gown though it is almost veering into
drapery territory. The side swept hair and the red lip are a
nice touches.

This is an unmitigated, velvet disaster. It is poorly constructed
and ill-fitting to boot. I do like her bronzed makeup though.

Minimalist:Karisma, ___ :: Sonam

There's your little brain teaser of the day. These two lovelies attended the Hall of Fame awards in such strikingly different ensembles. Karisma was the epitome of sleek and minimalist. Fitted black is universally flattering and that neckline adds an edginess to her look. Her platform peep toes and pulled back poker straight hair seal the deal. Lolo has been gravitating toward black of late, but she looks so good in it that I can't fault her.

Narcisco Rodriguez + her trusty Loubies = classic Lolo

Sonam, on the other hand, lived up to her whimsical fashion sense in a sunny gown. But Sonam darling, I don't mean to alarm you, but there is a little something on your shoulder. You may want to have that looked at. It's freaking me out. Minus the giant orchid (or whatever that thing is), the bow detailing and the bold color made for a lovely gown. The pinned up hair was spot on with a gown this voluminous and with such heavy duty detailing at the neckline.

Lady, if you're going to wear this bold, cut-out Pucci gown after it has been seen on the likes of J Lo, you gots to bring it! You can't be all slouchy and sullen faced, and have your undergarment peeking out. You must own it like J Lo. Otherwise, the oomph factor of this gown is utterly and completely lost on you. Arguably the most anticipated couple at the Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla 25th Anniversary bash, Aishwaryashek did not disappoint. Clad in a fitted salwaar kameez, La Rai finally showed off that baby bump. She's due any day now, so I say mad props are due to her for trooping through this event. If you can take your eyes of the glowing Aishwarya, then you'd note that Abhishek looks like a doofus. He apparently lauded his "Mamas" for giving him his style sense. Why the indictment of their style, Abhi?! I for one can't see how one could blame AJ-SK for Abhi baby's whack fashion choices.

India's pageant queens seem to be sharing lots of good news these days. Shortly after we learned of La Rai's lil bun in the oven, Mrs. Bhupathi made her own announcement. By way of contrast to La Rai, who has been photographed (rarely) and exclusively in voluminous Indian attire, Lara D is of the "flaunt that bump" camp with her cute maternity wear.

From a recent babymoon in Europe where she has been stocking up at Isabella Oliver and Shop Bop for maternity clothing while satisfying some cravings, she recently tweeted:

One glance upon Bips' attire and I was very nearly rendered speechless. What the fug is this monstrosity?! The bizarre (wholly unattractive, hideous even) print, side slit and train were bad enough. But that - what I can only describe as a tat-sleeve? Add to that, the inexplicably demure (almost sensible) heels, and hair that has been flat ironed until the ends are all fryed, and we have what is quite possibly one of Bips' worst looks ever. Does this prove she has taken leave of her senses since dumping boy-toy John A? I kid. But seriously, this dress is fugly.

It looks like DP is slowly working herself out of her shorts and tank craze. The sheath while showing off her great pair of gams, seems to be ill-fitting. But the sparkle factor is appropriate for the venue (a Formula 1 bash), and those nude platform sling backs are a classy touch. It is certainly an improvement over her recent appearances so we'll take it!

The newest face of Olay Regenerist, Mads attended a product launch looking rather ... boring. Don't get me wrong. La Dixit totally rocks the short hemline, which is a departure for her. However, I wish she'd introduce some color into that wardrobe. Take a cue from Sri. Nothing heralds an impending comeback attempt like some bright, bold colors! At the very least, throw in a colorful pair of heels instead of boring ol' black on black. Anyway, the frock isn't really inventive. It's better suited for a day of shopping than a product launch, wouldn't you say?

In keeping with the trend of seeking divine intervention prior to movie releases, new girl Nargis Fakhri made a dutiful appearance at the Golden Temple. Can I just say that this is one stunning girl? She is wearing minimal (if any makeup) but she radiates natural beauty. Attending a recent music launch, La Rai looked radiant while cloaking her growing belly in a lovely Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla creation. Looks like any prior rift between the designers and La Rai has been placated as she has turned to them for custom maternity-wear. Bonus: the lightly curled hair is a welcome change from her usual blown out locks.

I'm pretty excited for director Tarsem Singh's reportedly dark(er) take on the classic fairy tale of Snow White. The casting choice of Julia Roberts as the evil queen was a coup and I'm interested to see what kind of dark, melodramatic spin Roberts will give the role. The film also stars Lilly Collins as Snow White and Nathan Lane as the Queen's henchman (for a little comedic lightheartedness I suspect). The film is expected to be released in March.

This gorgeous mamma-in-the-making has sure figured out clever ways to outsmart the photogs in their vain attempts to snag a shot of that blossoming Bachchan baby bump (ha try saying that three times fast). I certainly don't begrudge La Rai her quest for some degree of privacy. But I can't resist repeating how stunning she is in her desi maternity wear. While it handily conceals the BBBB, it is far from mumu territory! Quite the different approach than Karisma's take on maternity wear. I love both for being so flattering to the preggers woman who doesn't want to sacrifice style! For days when you want to wrap your baby bump in a cozy cocoon, go the La Rai route. For days when you want to flaunt your magnificent bump take a cue from Lolo.

At long last. A real star studded affair. The premiere for Mausam drew out some of our faves from the Bolly sphere. Conspicuously absent were all of the Khans (Saifeena being understandably so) and the Bachchan brigade. But I'm a glass half full kind of girl, so let's focus on the gang that was in attendance.

Rani's attire is disappointing to say the least. But how nice of her to

What is going on with that sequined panel on Ritesh's shirt?

Ritesh's "special friend" Genelia D looks lovely in this
colorful Nishka Lulla chania choli. Just in time for Navratri
because GD looks like she's ready to bust some garba moves

I dislike everything about Deepika's look at a recent Tissot launch. Something about the asymetric sleeve coupled with the too-long hem results in an unbalanced look. With her gorge height, an above-the-knee hemline would have nicely offset the mono-sleeve. The mono-sleeve itself is a fail - to achieve a better look, a flowy single sleeve would have worked better. As it stands, it looks like poor DP was attacked backstage by a scissors-wielding rival. Add to that, her greasy, slicked back pony tail is doing nothing for her.

When Cover Ups Fail.

The object of concealer is to ... well, conceal. Sayali B demonstrates an epic fail at the music launch of The Weekend. Let's think about this shall we? If you know you'll be stepping out at some point in the near future wearing a halter style (read: maximum skin exposure) dress, you have two options.

Option 1: at least two weeks from said event, start religiously washing arms, chest and back with a product containing salicylic acid to tame the dreaded bacne and to allow existing scars and marks to heal and fade away. Option 2: do nothing and on day of event, frantically slather on liquid foundation all over your back and arms. Guess which option is preferred?

Liquid foundation on arms/back + summer's heat = meltdown catastrophe. What we see are visible streaks of the liquid foundation dribbling down her back and ashy whitish splotches on her arms. All it is doing is drawing even more attention to her problem areas. Gah. Photos: getty.

Bad. Even bona fide Bollytown hawties can succumb to "off days". Hrithik sported the heinous combination of heavage and hair bordering on a 'fro. My recommendation? Button that shirt up and follow your pals SRK and Fardeen to the barber, yo!

That's Little White Dress. I think this round clearly belongs to Dia. I like the sweet eyelet shift. It doesn't veer into cutesy territory because the short hemline balances that tendency of such dresses. The nude, platform peep-toes lend that extra level of oomph. Minimalist makeup and easy wavy hair complete her look at the music launch for Love Breakups Zindagi.

Regrettably, I think Sonam's look while promoting Mausam in Mumbai, fell flat. I do want to go on the record as saying I don't think it's entirely her (or her stylist's) fault. She was probably contractually obligated (like Kit Kat) to wear flats while promoting her film so as not to tower over Shahid (why oh why are Bolly actors' egos so delicate?). That said, the dress itself was too bulky and shapeless to be at all attractive. Long sleeves should be paired with a shorter hemline. And I don't understand what sort of material this is - is it lace? The closeup of the fabric actually reminds me of those snowflakes you used to cut out of a sheet of paper as kids. Great for Christmas decorations, bad for dress material.

King Khan opted for the idiotic-looking mini-ponytail as he was announced as the face of Nokia Champions League Twenty 20 by ESPN STAR sports. Meanwhile, Fardeen bumbled his way through the music launch for Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster with his now-ubiquitous greasy mop of hair.

So SRK tweeted this latest poster for Ra.One earlier today. It struck me as a futuristic, desi take on the famous Gone With The Wind movie poster with Clark Gable and Vivienne Leigh, minus the smoldering chemistry of those golden stars.

This poster represents excessive digital retouching with a heavy dose of shading and contouring of SRK's abs and terrible photoshopping of lifeless Kareena. Her oddly contorted body reminds me of those Amar Chitra Kathas with their voluptuous, scantily clad damsels with unrealistic bust-waist-hip ratios that would make Barbie jealous.

Ok so PZ tweeted no less than 5 times about her travels to the Venice International Film Festival. Upon further investigation, it seems she was awarded the "World Diamond Group Platinum Award for People" at the Premio Kineo ceremony. Apparently, it was bestowed upon her for her work towards promoting cultural harmony. Not to be a cynic, but I have to ask: "huh?!?".

Fresh off her recent Stateside sabbatical, PZ recently launched her new talk show and continues to dabble with her cricket investment, the Kings XI. Anyone else curious as to why exactly she was honored? If it were a fashion award, I would say absolutely she deserves it, but humanitarian work? I'm a bit surprised to say the least.

An industry (Holly not Bolly) pal just informed me that AB Sr. is confirmed to play Meyer Wolfsheim in Baz Luhrmann's big budget adaptation of one of my all-time favorite reads: F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. Judging by the novel as well as subsequent cinematic adaptations, the role is a fairly minor one. Nonetheless it's a major coup for Big B. I wonder if he'll get to don those creepy cuff links made of human molars?

AB Sr. will be joining an all-star cast including Leonardo Dicaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Isla Fischer. I'm not sure I fathom this casting decision, but I am eager to see how it transpires. I was seriously bummed by this collection. I had such high hopes for gorgeous Sabya saris but was mostly disappointed by the blandness that came down the runway. I did think some of the high, almost mock-turtle neck collars on some of the pieces were interesting. Feel free to disagree!

The much-hyped MM finale at LFW didn't disappoint. Let's see. We saw big hair, classic MM designs, even some strange other worldly embellishments.

Despite the rapturous twitterations of some (ahem, KJo), showstopper Bebo was a bit of a drag. The MUA (I refuse. Refuse, I tell you. To believe this is the work of Lakmé makeup expert Corey Walia) covered her near flawless skin with a heavy varnish of too light, too matte foundation. Haterade! I thought the smokey eye and winged eye liner on the other models was much much much preferable to Bebo's look. The design of her dress was true to MM tendencies and was over-sequined and over-ruffled. But it did look good onstage (in a custome-y way), and I suppose I'll concede that is the point.

The LFW Finale presented by Manish Malhotra promised to be a celeb studded affair, and it didn't disappoint! Neha was smoldering in curve hugging red. That necklace is to die for!

Amu had a cute vibe going on in her floaty blue number. It may teeter on the edge of looking like drapery, but I do think she wore it well. I guarantee this is one item MAK would never borrow from Amu's closet!

As for Karisma, well, it wasn't one of her best looks. I don't dig the rinse of her denim. Maybe if she had opted for wearing just the dress minus the skinnies, it would have worked better. But an off day for Karisma is still better than a good day for the Poonams and Divyas of the world.

Kat glowed in a floor length peaches-n-creme MM suit. The girl knows what colors are most flattering for her. I love!

Chitragandha rocked a MM creation that was the colorful opposite to Kat's suit. The vibrant sea foam and purple were nicely offset by low key gold heels. Good work, lady!

Fit and fab, Queenie apparently also laughs in the face of age. Undeniably, she looks amazing. But I would like to see her in something other than the short, tight numbers she's been favoring of late. Perhaps she could take a cue from Sridevi in terms of hemline and fit?

Kim ~~Kardashian~~ Sharma strikes again. While I don't personally love the leopard print, I think she looks good here minus the pouty face.

And that brings us to OMG-WTF-were-you-thinking Deepika. Seriously. Her outfit has me sounding like a tween texting furiously. If I keep looking at this photo I'll be ROFLMAO. Black shorts. Black tank top. Nude heels. That's it?! It's just so lacking in interest (and trust me, that necklace ain't doing it). This is not an outfit for sitting in the front row at the LFW Grand-freaking-Finale.

Did you just not care, DP? You had to realize that the MM show was going to attract all the who's who of B-town not to mention your so-called frenemies and other people of import. Did they fail to tell you that photogs would be in abundance? Or, did you mistakenly think you were walking in the show and thus thought you'd be changing into a MM design anyway so why bother dressing up? This can be the plausible only explanation for attire that so drastically deviates from DP's usual style.

As expected, Sabyasachi was a big draw for celebs attending LFW. I love love loved Sri's sari with it's extra wide zari border. Leave it to Sri to rock the scandalous sari blouse. "Age shmage!" she declares.

Shraddha's sari was a wee bit too rosey for my taste. And her fuschia clutch is just inexplicable. What palette was she trying to coordinate with?!

Although on the simpler side, I liked Sabya-muse, Vidya's creme/gold sari with its navy accents with her trademark three-quarter sleeve peach blouse peeking through. But I must say that she is doing the sari a disservice by piling the pallu carelessly over her shoulder. If she was tired of draping it over her arm, she should have taken the five minutes to pleat and properly pin it. A Sabyasachi creation deserves at least that much don't you think?

Arpita wowed in a bold, polka dot print. I'm beginning to think this lil' wallflower has significant style sense! And lookey lookey, she's even put on a spot of makeup. Is that eye shadow I see? A light dusting of blush too? She's looking great!

I'll end this post with an UFD. Whoever she is, I don't know why she thought this blue on blue monstrosity would be good to wear in public, let alone to LFW.

Lakmé Fashion Week: People Watching Part II.

As with Delhi Couture Week, LFW attendees were not all totally hopeless fashion duds. Believe it or not, amid that abysmal showing you just witnessed, there were many bright spots of good fashion sense. Here's what I saw in no particular order.

Bhagayshree was spot on.

Ayesha wore a suit very similar to B's sari.
I liked it less, but the look was still good.

Pooja Bedi in a wild strapless maxi.

A smile would help immensely, darling.
I know it is absolutely wretched being dragged
out of the manse for LFW, buck up.

Basic black. The size of the shoulder bag is a
bit of a mystery. Is she planning to abscond
with some of the clothes?

Aarti C. - demure but oh so pretty.

When Will They Learn?

With one daughter acting a fool on the runway, and the other, sitting boringly by her side, what must stylish Tanuja be thinking? The hot pink, orange and yellow of her sari and blouse are eye catching whereas Kajol's dress reminds me of a rather ugly bed sheet set.

I love how Tanuja kept her jewelry set simple with classic pearls so as not to outshine that enviable ring collection she's sporting. Meanwhile Kajol appears to have shopped at El Cheapo Emporium of Plastic Baubles. Tragic. Also, Kajol could learn to carry a proper clutch like mummy instead of awkwardly clutching her belongings in her hands. Photo: getty.

Aruna Seth: Bridal Shoes Not Just For Brides.

UK-based designer Aruna Seth has fast become known for jaw-dropping embellished sandals. A flurry of celebs have worn her creations to red carpet events, however, Ms. Pippa Middelton may have provided the designer with a tidal wave of publicity.

At her sister's wedding reception, Pippa paired her gorge Temperley emerald green gown with Seth's "Lynn" silver heels shown here.

The heels bear Seth's trademark butterfly design. Methinks this fledgling brand has great things in store!

Feel free to openly gawk at the fugliness you are about to behold courtesy of LFW attendees. They run the gamut from the so very boring to the mind blowingly fugly. We'll start off with Amisha. Sorry, babe, but even Chanel can't class up your sparkly denim cut off skirt and ribbed tank combo. The bright blue eye liner is inexplicable.

Next up, Simone Singh attended the shows in a horribly ill-fitting satin shirt dress. Why oh why?!

Poonam Pandey (yes, her) at least covered up (barely) her lingerie this go around. I will grudgingly admit that I kinda dig her heels. A lot. But flattering the rest of her get up is not. Nor is it remotely appropriate for a couture show. Billy Bob's ho-down (get it?) maybe, but not LFW for god's sake.

Celina, I see you refuse my advice regarding the colored lenses. Anyway, there's something ill-fitting about CJ's tiered ruffle dress. And the choice of footwear is baffling.

The parade of fug continues; feel free to write in with a name if you want to assign blame where it belongs!

I was unimpressed by this collection. One boring, monochromatic look after another; and oddly the women's pieces were too big whilst the men's were too snug. Have a look for yourselves.

The only thing that struck me was seeing Kabir Bedi saunter down the catwalk. That man has more charisma in his pinky finger than the rest of the ~~clowns~~ models on stage. There is something so villainous about him; I think it's the goatee.

As expected, the Shyamal and Bhumika show was sumptuous with rich, textured fabrics on lehngas sure to make any bride-to-be swoon. Showstoppers Hema and Esha were lovely. I love Bhumika's suit seen in the photos alongside Hema and Esha - it makes a tall woman look so very elegant.

Extreme Matching: Eyeshadow Edition.

We can always count on Ravs to demo a faux pas for us. Her attire at this press meet for Nickelodeon and McDonald's (what an unholy alliance; isn't there a global childhood obesity epidemic going on?) was ho hum. The nude colored pants make it seem like she's pantsless, and I'm not really going out on a limb here, knowing her penchant for satin pants, but I think I detect a satiny sheen here. And don't get me started on her pairing those chunky chappals with the rest of her getup. While I like the royal blue color of her blouse, the matching blue eye shadow was overkill.

The unfortunate younger sib of Kajol, aka Tanisha, was seen flouncing down the runway for Payal Kothari at Lakmé Fashion Week like a coquettish schoolgirl. It is a fashion show for a couture line. Not amateur night at a local college. Get it together woman. Or better yet, take a cue from the effortlessly chic Karishma who wasn't even walking the show.

Tanisha also lacked any real stage presence at the Swarovski Gems show where she walked for Archana Kochhar. Looks like Payal Kothari didn't do her homework; anyone who witnessed Tanisha at Archana Kochhar would have known better than to hire her for their subsequent show. She's clearly repeating to herself "smile and walk, smile and walk". Poor thing did get stuck in atrocious outfits at both events.

Extreme Matching.

Jacqueline F. attended the popular college festival Malhar hosted by St. Xavier's in Mumbai wearing a cute colorblock frock. However, it was with her almost-matching accessories that she fell into the worst possible Extreme Matching trap: matching accessories to clothes with not quite the same shade. I'm not particularly fond of matching ones hand bag to ones shoes anyway, but it looks even more odd when the shade in question is so similar to the pop of color on one's clothes. My advice: try to avoid pairings that are adjacent on the color wheel unless you're trying to wear gradient shades. Somehow, I don't think that's what Jacqui set out to do here.

That's Not Going To Be Very Effective Is it?

I had one look at this promotional poster and I just couldn't resist. Have a dekho for yourselves at the Muscles from Mumbai himself, Sallu baba. I can't imagine that this bodyguard is going to get much benefit from a ~~flak jacket~~ ski vest when worn more than halfway unbuttoned. Here's how I imagine the convo went between Sallu and his director/brother-in-law, Atul Agnihotri.

Atul: we're going for a tough, "I can take a bullet" look hero shot. So you'll have to wear a full kevlar vest with the works.

Muscles from Mumbai: what?! Unacceptable. I want to wear shredded, acid wash jeans (2 sizes too small) and no shirt! Shirtlessness is kinda my MO. Anyway, kevlar is too restricting on my muscles.

Atul: Sallu, that is not going to work. If you refuse the heavy kevlar, how about you at least wear a light ski vest. You are playing a bodyguard after all. You can't very well be shirtless.

MfM: Arey, yaar. You drive a hard bargain. Fine. I will wear the vest on two conditions: 1) I go shirtless under it, and 2) I leave it unbuttoned.

Atul: How about you leave off 2 buttons and button the rest?

MfM: 3 buttons off. That's my final offer.

Atul: Fine. Just shoot the bloody poster.

Suit Up!

The stars of Aarakshan got that right - suits at premieres are a sure bet. Well almost. I'm not digging the sheen on Manoj's suit in addition to the sheen on the tie. With that tie, a matte finish suit would have been better.

Saifu, on the other hand almost nails it with his classic black pin stripe. However (you knew there had to be a however), he undoes some of his style points but leaving his shirt unbuttoned to there. Heavage is always inappropriate - especially at a movie premiere!

Revered Bollywood film icon and everyone's favorite junglee, Shammi Kapoor passed away in Mumbai. Our condolences to the Kapoor family and really to all fans of Bollywood. In tribute, here is a video of Shammiji and Saira Banu frolicking in the song that shot them to fame: Chahe Koi Mujhe Junglee Kahe.

It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White...

Sorry if you now have MJ playing on repeat in your heads. My bad. I couldn't help it though after glancing at Deepika's sari at the Mumbai premiere of Aarakshan (or what remains of it following Prakash Jha's ~~appropriate~~ forced cuts). First off, I am pleased to see that Deepika abandoned that teased hair style that she's been sporting to all Aarakshan events. It's not like Soha where the style was not flattering, it was. It just got a tad boring after a couple of back-to-back appearances. Maybe the 'do was character-related. Who knows?

On to the sari. I love the black/white color combo and the mega-detailing at the neckline is absolutely gorge. Only thing that puzzles me is the full length sleeves on this blouse - it looks more like the sleeves of a long-sleeved tee. I've got nothing against full length sleeves - Sonakshi previously nailed this look. But something is wrong with the construction here. Plus, the long sleeves combined with a super short blouse make it appear disproportionate. If we could gain just a smidge of length on the blouse and lose a little on the sleeves, I think it'd be perfect. Photos: getty.
